DESCRIPTION:<p>Join the Evanston Symphony Orchestra as they mark the 50th anniversary of&nbsp;Dmitri Shostakovich’s death. The ESO will play his lyrical and powerful Symphony No. 5, a work in which many listeners hear despair beneath the glorious melodies. The work is paired with Pyotr Ilyich&nbsp;<em>Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme</em>&nbsp;with cello soloist Christine Lamprea. Opening the concert is a work by Jonathan Bailey Holland, composer and dean at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of&nbsp;Music:&nbsp;<em>Motor City Dance Mix</em>. It is a vibrant musical collage, in&nbsp;homage to Holland’s home city of Detroit, influenced by classical, hip-hop, jazz, and other musical genres.</p><p>The concert will take place on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 2:30 p.m. at Pick-Staiger Concert hall.
