Reparations Committee Meeting - CANCELED

Please note that the July Reparations Committee Meeting has been canceled.

DNA kits are still available for pick-up at City Council Chambers (2nd Floor, 909 Davis St.) starting at 9:00 a.m.

Dr. LaKisha David, a leading expert in genetic anthropology, will be on-site to answer questions and help residents learn more about how DNA testing can support reconnection to ancestral roots.

About the Family Roots Program

The City of Evanston Reparations Committee, in partnership with the African Kinship Reunion (TAKiR) project, invites interested residents to participate in the Family Roots Pilot Program. This program offers African American descendants of enslaved individuals an opportunity to engage with their heritage through advanced genetic genealogy and historical research. It provides tools and resources that may support personal, familial, and cultural reflection, including the possibility of exploring ties to Africa, specifically Ghana.
