Chamber of Commerce Healthy Buildings Ordinance Info Session

All businesses, organizations and institutions are welcome to attend this Healthy Buildings Ordinance Informational and Q&A Session. During the session, attendees will hear from the City of Evanston's sustainability team, learn more about the purpose and details of the Healthy Buildings Ordinance, and have the opportunity to ask questions on this important topic.

The Healthy Buildings Ordinance (HBO) is a proposed building performance standard that would require all large buildings (20,000+ square feet) to reduce their carbon emissions to zero by 2050. Evanston currently has about 500 buildings that would fall under this ordinance, and new buildings would need to meet the established standards as well. The HBO is currently being discussed by City Council, with this topic moving quickly and scheduled for a vote at the City Council meeting on Monday, February 10.

During the session:

  • 11:30am - arrival
  • 11:40-12:00pm - City's sustainability team provides an intro and overview to the HBO, including: why/how the ordinance initiated, purpose and intended impact, included buildings, timeline for execution, stakeholder engagement opportunities and benchmarks needing to be met.
  • 12:00-12:50pm - Sustainability team to answer questions submitted in advance (share your questions during registration), and answer questions from those in the room.
  • 12:50-1:00pm - Learn about next steps and timeline for the HBO.
