In order to better serve our community, the Evanston Fire Department is offering four courses to the general public that are authorized by the American Heart Association.

Please note that we are taking all Covid-19 precautions necessary to make our classes safe for all those participating, including but not limited to Social distancing, small class sizes, and thorough cleansing of all equipment. Masks are required, but will be removed while practicing certain lessons while maintaining social distancing.

The Evanston Fire Explorer Post 911 is a youth oriented program directed at helping young adults who have an interest in the fire service.  Young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20 are invited to become Fire Explorers with the Evanston Fire Department.  Our program provides an opportunity for junior high, high school and college students to become familiar with career opportunities available in the fire service.

The Citizen Fire Academy is a program designed to give participants a working knowledge of the Evanston Fire Department. The mission of the Citizen Fire Academy is to create a well-informed cross section of the citizens from our community by describing and demonstrating the functions of the Evanston Fire Department.

You can become more involved in emergency preparedness and response.  You can take a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class to become better prepared for yourself, your family and your neighbors.

 The City of Evanston's File of L.I.F.E. (Lifesaving Information for Emergencies) program allows residents to communicate with emergency responders even if they're unresponsive. 

The File of L.I.F.E., a plastic pouch with a bright red sticker, contains an information sheet for residents to indicate their medical history, prescriptions, allergies and emergency contacts. This pouch is placed inside the individual’s freezer where emergency response personnel have been trained to look when responding to medical emergencies. Other important information may be placed in the pouch: power of attorney, living will, Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) documentation, etc.

The Premise Alert Program (PAP) is a confidential computer-aided dispatch (CAD) database designed to enhance the safety of people with disabilities/ special needs. These individuals, their families, and/or their caregivers may voluntarily submit information about their special circumstances for inclusion in the PAP database free of charge.
